Tony is a senior engineer, architect, and developer in oil & gas application development.  Leveraging a long industry experience that started in petroleum exploration & production research and evolved into software development and testing, Tony uniquely and effectively bridges the gap between oil & gas subject matter experts and software developers. His skills at implementing the latest petroleum production engineering developments into the latest in technology software tools are highly valued by operators because he puts the benefits of continuous improvement into the hands of the people who need it, like operations engineers. Tony has expertise in data management in and between the environments of large historians, workstations and laptops, and mobile devices.

Tony began his oilfield career with a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from King Fahad University of Petroleum & Minerals in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia on a full scholarship, and interned with Saudi Aramco as a production engineer in the Udhailiyah oil fields.  He then studied energy economics at the French Petroleum Institute before getting a master’s degree in petroleum engineering at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.  Under the tutelage of renown industry expert, Michael Economides, he developed technology advances in reservoir modeling and new insights into hydrocarbon fluid phase behavior.  Tony earned a doctorate in chemical & petroleum engineering at the University of Kansas where he developed in-situ gelation flood management  and enhanced oil recovery techniques. He then spent eight years in Europe, first with Halliburton where he experimented with fracturing fluids, and then with Baker Jardine (now Schlumberger), where he was the lead developer of the PIPESIM user interface.  Tony returned to the U.S. where he has spent most of his career consulting and developing software for various large and small oil & gas entities.  Most recently, he has focused on the development of mobile applications, which are rapidly gaining in use in the field.

Tony and his wife, Kim, are empty nesters, and have three daughters.  Tony enjoys a good run every morning, has developed a comic book database app for fun, and listens to modern Icelandic musicians and soundtracks.  For many years, the Montes Family Travelling Circus has enjoyed camping around Europe with a single duffle bag per person in the car.  They keep in touch with their daughters using modern communications.
